How The Dragons Lair Got It's Name

Originally our Dragon's Lair was a typical Brick and Mortar Bookstore. This poem was written by The Faerie Queen from a story idea that I never had time to write. After I read the poem, I no longer saw the need for a book.

The Dragon's Lair has served us well for many of our businesses since the original store. Most recently it spent 6 years as the name of online auction house with Ebay. The early Ebay years were good but the fees and the effort eventually became more than we wanted to deal with, so we went out and got a real job, with paid vacations

Now we are venturing into a new realm with more stress on fun and less on profits. From now on I will be offering only items I personally like.
I hope you check back frequently to check on us as we head into our newest evolution.

The Dragon's Lair

In days of past, in years gone by,
Dragons ruled o'er sea, on land, in sky.
Dragon Lords and Ladies and fierce Dragon Knights,
Flew the world over in search of harsh fights.

Who is the mighty, who should be King?
To fight in a battle was the main Dragon thing.
Lo and behold, appeared a creature that stands.
Quickly he spread, he called himself man.

Together the Dragons now had to band,
Against the people driving them off of the land.
"We must pull together, not fight with each other."
So Dragons fought side-by-side. Close - like brothers.

But man was quick, and man was smart.
He won all the battles, cold was his heart.
The Dragons reduced, only a few now in number.
"We thought man was dumb, but we in our arrogance,
We were far dumber."

"Where will we go, what shall we do?
They killed most of us, now we're only a few."
Said Talon the Elder, one very wise,
"We must hide in plain sight, not fly thru the skies.'

They thought and they thought and went for a look.
When one of them said, "Look there! A store full of books."
They searched the world over, the world all around,
And found such a store in almost every town.

They waited till dark, till deep in the night.
Then each mighty Dragon hid well out of sight.
Each went to a basement, beneath a book store.
Never again were they seen, no never, no more.

They sometimes got bored, with nothing to do,
So they hunted on rats and ate quite a few.
The booksellers laughed, as pleased as could be.
They didn't know why, but no rats was a sight,
they were happy to see.

This worked out quite well, for quite a long time.
But nothing can stop a Dragon's most curious mind.
Nosy they are, they just have to know,
About the world and its happenings; its to and its fro.

So late every night, when the stores are closed tight,
The Dragons they creep, up the stairs by moonlight.
They search thru the books for one that looks good,
Then stretch on the floor and read - just as they should.

As the sun starts to peak and the night starts to slack,
The Dragons they yawn, and put the books back.
Then easy they go, down the stairs do they tread.
Back to the basements, back to their beds.

Think of them curled up, asleep under there,
Think of this always whenever you hear:

"This the store called ‘The Dragon's Lair.'"
